I think that the falcons may have a chance, because the first thing is the new coaching. Some changes have been that Michael Vick can now call plays, and also that Joe Horn has been added to the team. Joe Horn and Michael Vick should work well together, because I have heard that they were friends before hand. Also if they can pick up another good wide receiver in the draft and a good safety (since after trading schaub they have two first round picks) then it would be pretty helpful to the team as well.
What everyone said was true but then anup1992 had a point how is Rex Grossman a superbowl qb but mike vick isn’t? I think that Rex Grossman is far more in-consistent than Mike Vick

I’m sorry but when they traded Matt Shaub I knew it was over . Because the Falcons cannot do it with Mike Vick

Who Dat! on 28 March, 2009 at 10:37 pm #

Super Bowl? Lets try winning season first, then playoffs, then maybe after that lets talk Super Bowl. They are a long way off from going to the big game.

whatshappenin? on 30 March, 2009 at 9:14 am #

what happens if Vick gets hurt? DJ Shockley cant run the team. they need to sign a veteran backup.

kman252 on 1 April, 2009 at 2:56 pm #

0. No chance what so ever.

mecabman on 4 April, 2009 at 7:19 am #

I don’t think they will quite be ready. They will have to adjust to the new coaching system. I believe they will get into the playoffs but fall short of the Superbowl this season.

james on 6 April, 2009 at 12:31 pm #

not good. sorry to burst your bubble but michael vick is not a super bowl quarterback

somathus on 6 April, 2009 at 3:56 pm #

less than 1/32

fries846 on 7 April, 2009 at 12:55 am #

Well first off i am so glad that some won Else likes falcons. So yes they do have Joe Horn + the number one rush offense in the NFL.And the #1 tight end i the NFL (well i really think so).As long as Micheal Vick doesent get hurt we will be fine. But i do think that Matt Schaub was a great QB.
To awnser your question yes they are playoff contenders.Maby if they dont make mistakes this season they most certainly will be in the superbowl.

Judge Ghis on 8 April, 2009 at 10:03 am #

Better than Detroit and Oakland, but as bad as (or even worse than) the other 29 teams.

The biggest obstacle in Atlanta’s path to the Super Bowl is their QB situation, but that’s far from the only obstacle.

Bill J on 8 April, 2009 at 2:44 pm #

Now that they have the eighth pick of the draft, I’m guessing on picking LaRon Landry, well I know he is gonna be good. Joe Horn is gonna be a big help for Michael Vick…
However, mavbe they could go to the playoffs but not the SB.

The required stats for Michael Vick: 3000 yards throwing 500 tards rushing

Warrick Dunn: 1100 yards rushing

Joe Horn: about 900 yards catching since he now has more oppertunities…

LaRon Landry, DeAngelo Hall and rest of the Defense
more then 10 interceptions at least and 20 sacks at least….

I know the defense won’t do much so the Falcons offense has to be one of the top offense in the conference

jackie_copperhead on 10 April, 2009 at 6:23 pm #

They have to win the division first, the super bowl will be a while down the road.but keep in mind who they play in the division……Carolina(who always surprise the nay-sayers, New Orleans(who almost made it to the big show), and Tampa Bay(They won’t suck for long)

bigdmoose48 on 12 April, 2009 at 3:34 am #

Not much of a chance. Unless Vick learned how to read defenses and throw the ball to his recievers. You can’t win with a QB that runs for more yards than he passes for. Horn will help because he is a great reciever but Vick still has to be the guy to get it to him. They may do alright in the season, maybe even make the palyoffs, maybe, but once in the playoffs your playing against teams that can contain and force Vick to win with his arm which I don’t think he can do consistantly. Only time will tell but i’d be loooking for a back up, such as a Green or Plummer.

qbsneek2004 on 13 April, 2009 at 5:55 pm #

Lets see oh I have an equation add all the player’s numbers in the nfl. Multiply by the number of letters in your last name. Then add infinity. put a nice one over that and you have your odds

hipo8000 on 14 April, 2009 at 12:38 am #

ummmmmmmmmmmmm, my prediction is they’ll make wild card and lose

pepe_guadalupe07 on 15 April, 2009 at 2:56 pm #

I’d say the Lions have a far better chance at going to the superbowl next year and they’re horrible right now. No, Atlanta stands absolutely no chance of going to the superbowl next year

Nemm on 16 April, 2009 at 2:33 pm #

Slim to none. Not with Vick as QB.

Joe S on 17 April, 2009 at 3:17 pm #

I do believe that Vick is a Superbowl Quarterback. It’s not that Vick is a terrible passer, it’s that he never had a capable set of recievers. Horn will manage to help, but not to the point where he’ll totally pull them out. If you remember back to the Pittsburgh game he went to town on my beloved Steelers. When things click, he’s dangerous.

However, they lack a good back-up quarterback. Their defense could use some help also. I don’t think they’ll take down the Saints for the divison, but I think they’ll make a wild card.

Superbowl next season? No. A couple of good free agent signing and a good couple of decent picks in the draft and within 3 years I say they’ll be back in the big game.

bhsxfactor on 19 April, 2009 at 4:55 pm #

about 50-50… seriously we wont know until Super Bowl Sunday, the NFC South is crazy anyways… the Falcons, with some good moves, could make a strong push in the playoffs

stan l on 20 April, 2009 at 12:08 am #

Very, very slim to none.

dano70893 on 22 April, 2009 at 3:43 pm #

The chances of them winning the SB this year, is the same as them goin back in time and winn the SB in ‘99

Jonni Jigolo on 22 April, 2009 at 8:57 pm #

Sure they do, but they’ll lose to Oakland at the Superbowl

kurt2 on 25 April, 2009 at 11:00 pm #

no chance till they get rid of vick

Brian D on 28 April, 2009 at 7:01 am #

they actually swaped first round picks with the Texans, they do however have two second round picks. I think they need too much help on the defensive side of the ball the make it that far.

jtallamerican722 on 29 April, 2009 at 12:27 pm #

I think they have a pretty good chance but trading the #1 backup QB wasn’t a good idea especially on a do or die year like the one coming up. I think that Petrino’s new plays can and will give Vick more options than tucking it and running and getting heart. If most of their guys stay healthy it think they has 5 starters get hurt and 4 sat out the rest of the season.

puffman on 29 April, 2009 at 12:51 pm #

ZERO CHANCE ,sorry but they will be worse this year-forget michael vick getting better / he`s going backwards-and i don`t think he will be calling his own plays, theres a reason he could`nt audible at the line.

Thomas C: Hoosier, Colts fan on 2 May, 2009 at 5:34 am #

I think they should set their goals for the playoffs first before they even think about getting into the Super Bowl. I hope that answers your question.

Chris on 3 May, 2009 at 9:48 pm #

They’ll never go to the Super Bowl with Vick at QB.

BEJEWELED on 4 May, 2009 at 5:21 pm #

Everyone has a chance hey, it’s the NFL. but I don’t think with Vick leading the way.

dirkdiggler_chestbrockwell on 7 May, 2009 at 3:09 am #

0 vick is a terrible passer and third down passing is important in the nfl. he cant rush for every 1st down. he is nothing at all without crumpler also

anup1992 on 10 May, 2009 at 7:27 am #

You guys are saying Vick is not a superbowl QB but do I need to remind you that Rex Grossman made it to the Superbowl
